Google+ Sign-In is Google+ History

Official confirmation that Google+ History has now become a part of Google+ Sign-In was received earlier today. What does this mean?

A while ago I wrote about the future of the Google+ History API, and API which has been in preview for some time. The Google+ History preview was also removed several days ago, and so when Google+ Sign-In was announced I immediately had my suspicions that this was essentially the final release of the History API.

Official Confirmation

If this wasn't enough to confirm this +Google posted the following in the +Google+ Developers History API preview forum today:

Hello,

As a valued member of the Google+ History developer preview program, you have had a preview of our future direction with Google+. Today, we are wrapping up the preview of the Google+ History and transitioning to new, even more powerful features. As part of this update, we are disabling the v1moments endpoint and moving the moment methods into the v1 API (https://developers.google.com/+/api/latest/.) You can use the Google+ Sign-In button (https://developers.google.com/+/features/sign-in) and app activities (https://developers.google.com/+/features/app-activities) in your production apps as well as our other new features.

We encourage you to read all about the new and improved Google+ developer platform on developers.google.com/+/ (https://developers.google.com/+/,) and bring your questions to our Google+ community (https://plus.google.com/communities/113527920160449995981.)

Again, thank you for your feedback during this developer preview program, it has been instrumental in shaping our future product direction. We can’t wait to see what the community develops with our new features!

So this confirms that the Google+ History API has been merged with Google+ Sign-In and is now powering the 'moments' part of the new API.

What do you think of this change, is this how you wanted the History API to turn out? Let us know in the comments below.
