+Yonatan Zunger announced on the Official Google Blog this morning that Blogger will now support Google+ comments.
But these aren't just comments using your Google+ Account. Instead, they're a way to bring together all of the conversation surrounding each blog post - both on the blog itself and on Google+.
The list of comments includes shares of the post on Google+ (with +1s and comments there included), as well as comments made directly on the blog. There's some overlap here of the two, as there is an option to "Share to Google+" when making a new comment.
Just like any post on Google+, you decide who can see your post, be it the Public, specific circles, or a few individuals. In a world where blog comments are overrun by trolls, the ability to limit who can see and reply to your comments could be revolutionary.
Another highly useful feature of the new commenting system is the ability to filter comments. You can see comments by everyone or just by people in your circles, and then sort them either by "Top Comments" or "Newest First."
It appears if authorship is set up and you are using the new comment system, you also get notifications when somebody comments:
I was very surprised to get this! |
On the whole, this seems like a tremendous improvement to the big problem of online comments. And while for now it's only on Blogger, there doesn't seem to be any reason this couldn't be released for any website in the near future. Try out the new comment system below!
