Google+ Through Glass

With Glass Explorers starting to receive the first Glass units and Google I/O just around the corner, a lot of big questions are being asked. But where does Google+ fit in with all of this?

Google+ Will Be a Big Part of Glass

The recently launched MyGlass Android app (that will be required to tether Glass to your Android device) has revealed that Google+ will be mandatory to use Glass. We now know this thanks to an APK Teardown by +Android Police. This proves that Google is very serious in weaving the social platform into all of their products and services.

You can also see Google+ in one of the official screenshots from the app:

What Google+ Features Are There in Glass?

So far the features that have been confirmed (you can see them in the video above) are:
  • Google+ Hangouts using the Glass camera
  • Sharing photos and videos to Google+
  • Checking in to places on Google+
  • Posting to Google+

Possible future features

It's very likely that in the future we'll be seeing even more integration with Google+, for example the 'Find my face' technology could be used to recognise people in the real world around you (if people have the feature enabled).

I wouldn't be surprised if some kind of front-end Google+ app was also a part of Glass, which could let you check your notifications or view important posts. Based on the screen size of Glass this would have to be implemented carefully.

Conclusion

Overall I feel Google+ will play a big part in Glass, the ability to easily take photos and videos of anything and have them instantly uploaded should encourage users to share a lot more media. Hangouts will also become even easier to use and I can't wait to see the other possibilities in the future.

Now if only I could get my hands on a pair...
