After telling us that it was coming a few months ago, it was just announced on the official Gmail blog that a “new” feature will roll out over the next few days allowing users to make phone calls via Google+ Hangouts from Google+ and Gmail as well as the Chrome extension.
Hangouts users can now enjoy unlimited free calling from the web to phone numbers in the US or Canada this includes all countries where Hangouts calling is available. Users can check and compare rates for other countries here.
Placing a call is simple: just click “Call a phone” in the Hangouts menu and pick a number.

In the tradition of the Hangouts video calls, you can now invite several users into the same call and spice up boring conversations with fun sounds from the Google Effects app.
This feature will come as a relief to those who have been holding on to the old Google Talk for its phone-calling ability. The blog post reiterated that Google+ Hangouts is “the future of Google Voice” and that phone calls are “just the beginning.”
Will you be using Google+ Hangouts more often now that it can make internet calls? What features do you think are still missing from Hangouts? Tell us in the comments below!
