Google launches City Experts, encouraging users to write more local business reviews

Google launches new program, City Experts, to encourage users to write reviews of local businesses in Maps, Zagat and Google+.
Earlier this week, Google re-launched Zagat with an all new website along with a new Android and iOS app. Zagat is built around users reviewing restaurants, bars and other businesses to help users identify the best places to go. These reviews are used across Google's products, including Maps and Google+.

Today, Google has announced a new program called City Experts, which offers perks to users which write high quality reviews of local businesses regularly. To become a City Expert, users are have to have written at least 50 high quality reviews and then maintain to write at least 5 reviews each month.

So what does Google qualify as a high quality review? It is usually three to four sentences long and contains specific, helpful and balanced information about a particular business.

Users accepted into the City Experts program will be invited into a Google+ Community of other reviewers, and it will send out month emails that offer local discounts, contests, free Google merchandise, and invites to special local events.

Currently, the City Experts program is open to users in US (Austin, Chicago, New York, Phoenix, Portland, Raleigh-Durham, San Francisco), UK (Bristol, Edinburgh, London, Manchester), Australia (Sydney) and Japan (Tokyo, Osaka)

Users can sign up to the City Experts program from today.
