Mood and device statuses for Hangouts now appearing on the desktop

You can now see your friends' device and mood statuses in Hangouts on the desktop.

The feature, introduced in the latest version of Hangouts for Android and iOS allows you to express your mood in the form of emoji, as well as letting people know what device you're currently using, such as a laptop, phone or tablet.

The feature remained absent for desktop Hangouts, that is until today. The update should be rolling out to everyone now, but works slightly differently to the mobile apps. If the person you're talking to is currently available on Hangouts, their device and mood status should show automatically like below. If that person isn't available, you can still see their status by clicking on their profile photo within the chat window.

Unfortunately, for now it seems you can only set your mood and configure your status options on the Hangout mobile apps, but that should change sooner rather than later.

What's your mood on the latest update to grace Hangouts on the desktop? Let us know in the comments!
