You’ve seen Google+ Hangouts used for everything from White House discussions to climate change debates to taking kids on virtual field trips, but have you ever watched someone get married on one?
A French LGBT rights organization, +Tous Unis Pour l'Egalité (“Together For Equality” in English) is using Hangouts to hold weddings for gay couples in countries where same-sex marriage is illegal - by calling a minister from another country where it is legal.
In this video, an elderly couple in France is married by the mayor of Marchin, a town in Belgium. Though not legally recognized (until France legalized same-sex marriage in May) this ceremony could not have been performed without the help of international video conferencing like Hangouts.
