[Quick Tip] Formatting messages in Google+ Hangouts

Did you think that there was no longer an ability to format text in Google+ Hangouts? Then you would be mistaken! In addition to featuring a wide selection of emoticons, Google+ Hangouts also supports some basic text formatting.

The official Hangouts support page lists some quick and easy keyboard shortcuts for spicing up your messages:

Formatting	Windows	Mac
Bold	Ctrl + B	⌘ + B
Italicize	Ctrl + I	⌘ + I
Underline	Ctrl + U	⌘ + U

This formatting is viewable in the Hangouts app for Android and iOS but it doesn’t seem to let you change it from a mobile device yet.

Additionally, if you copy and paste text from somewhere else it will maintain its original formatting. This even works with strikethroughs (made possible on Google+ posts and comments by placing dashes on each side of a word or phrase) though those aren’t viewable from the mobile app.
