Google Now adds support for Google+ Locations

An update to Google Now has now included support for Google+ Locations cards, allowing you to track your close friends and family movements to and from work or home.

Google Now, Google's personal assistant service, has been updated today on Android to include support for Google+ Locations, which will display your friends location in its card design. This is not the first time Google+ support has been added to Google Now, your Google+ friends birthdays currently show up on Google Now.

The feature is called Commute Sharing, and it is part of the Traffic cards. It uses your Pinpoint location settings, which was added to Google+ last week, the users which can see your pinpoint location will start to get cards in their Google Now streaming displaying your commute from work and home. Subsequently, users can choose to hide commute cards if they would like.

The feature should be use for coworkers to see when certain members of the team will be arriving at work, or to inform your loved ones that you are on your way home.

Google Software Engineer, +Joe LaPenna, has said that this is the first step at implementing Google+ Locations across Google products. So we should expect to see Google+ Locations popup in other Google services we use.

The new Google Search app is currently rolling out to Android 4.1+ devices over the coming days, no news yet if this feature will land for iOS.
