New version of Google+ for Android brings photo and location improvements

Google+ for Android is getting a fresh coat of gloss, with a smattering of new features and the usual assortment of bugfixes and performance improvements.

The newest version (v4.2.3) is gradually rolling out starting today. Until then, let's dive into all the juicy updates!

To start off, it isn't just a behind the scenes update. There are a couple of user requested features in today's update, mainly involving photos and the location sharing service.

Opening "Locations" will automatically refresh your friends’ locations on the map
This is a great addition to the handy "stalking" feature I'm sure everyone loves. auto-refreshing is a welcome update. Now where is the non-mobile version?

Photos now supports Android Beam, so you can share photos via NFC
For those rocking Nexus devices, you'll appreciate this nifty feature, which lets you "beam" a photo on Google+ from one device to another. My need to access the stock Gallery app is reducing with every update, and that's fine with me.

Photos also supports Daydream, so you can view your pics in screensaver mode when charging or docking your device
The update enables your Android device (4.2 and above) to display your photos on Google+ when in a Daydream (a screensaver mode).

Individual photo details are now available in the drop-down menu
A small, but worthwhile tweak that photo enthusiasts have been asking for. Photographers rejoice!
