Google account settings updated with a brand new, super-simple interface

Google account settings had been due for a revamp for a long time. Recently, the interface has been overhauled, but is it all good under the hood?

We reported on several changes to Google+ settings just a few days ago, and we had a sneaking suspicion that it was part of an update much bigger.

As it turns out, settings has seen an overhaul, grouping your settings and data into broader categories, which are now tabs at the top, rather than a branch of settings listed at the left.

The new categories are as follows:
  • Personal info
  • Security
  • Language
  • Data tools
On each tab, groups of settings are displayed in that familiar card interface that has adorned Android and Google products since 2012. It's so simple, even your Gran and Grandad could work their way around the new settings with relative ease.

Unfortunately, as far as the desktop web settings go, the new layout is a very pretty mask, as underneath hides the usual long list of options we've come to know and well, get used to. To see what I mean, just click on "Edit notifications settings" and you're back to reality.

As usual, to access your settings, just click on your profile photo on the top right of any Google service and hit "Account", or type in google.com/settings/personalinfo into your address bar. The new look should have rolled out to everyone, so take a gander!

Settings - Now More Mobile Friendly

Mobile-savvy users will be happy to read that the updates to settings has been optimised for the mobile web. Just tap "Account" from across Google services in your mobile browser and gaze in wonder at the new look.

The changes that have rolled out over the past day is a very good start, but obviously there is still a lot of cleaning up to do.

What do you think of the brand new settings interface? Love it or hate it? You know what to do.
