Google+ Photos to be Sunsetted August 1st

Google+ Photos will be shut down on August 1st for the remaining users who haven't yet made the switch to Google Photos.

At Google I/O in May, the company announced the launch of Google Photos, a new (and independent of Google+) photo backup service which in effect would replace G+'s "killer feature".

By now, most people should have made the switch to Photos (with the help of the prompts to do so within the Google+ Android app), but for those who haven't, the time bomb is ticking for Google+ Photos. As of August 1st, the legacy service will be sunsetted on Android, with the web and iOS to come shortly after. Users who still don't make the switch will of course no longer be able to use Google+ Photos, but all their backed-up photos and videos will remain safe in the cloud and are accessible at any time via http://photos.google.com and via the Google Photos app.
