Google+ Photos is Officially Google Photos - Launching Later Today

Google Photos is official and launching later today on Android, iOS and the web with free unlimited high quality storage.

Google Photos is a new home for your collection of photos and videos. With all the features of Google+ Photos and more, Photos allows you to back up an unlimited amount of high quality images and share to others is easier with shareable links. Google maintains the original resolution of your photos up to 16MP and 1080p high-definition for videos. Also, they store compressed versions of the photos and videos in beautiful, print-quality resolution.

Auto Awesome has received an update each of the last two years with last year being the introduction of Auto Awesome Stories. This year that rend continues with Auto Awesome being re-branded in the new Google Photos as Assistant, which suggests new things made from the photos and videos in your library, like animated GIFs, stories and collages.

One of the biggest advantages of Google Photos is the auto organization based on place and people in the photos. In addition, there are other smaller changes such as the ability to select multiple photos with a swipe and quickly scroll through the timeline of images to find memories that you captured in video or photography.
Paired with the announcement comes a new promotional video showing off all the tricks the revitalised service can do:

As rumoured and made clear by name, Google Photos has been uncoupled with Google+, not requiring it to back up photos and such, and I think that's a good thing. With a more open Photos, it will attract more people who weren't wanting to join "yet another social network" as some would say. This also allows Google to make sharing to other places with less friction.

Photos will be launching later today on Google Play, App Store and the web (accessible at photos.google.com). Photos.google.com has not launched yet; however, you can find out more at "About" sub-page in the meantime while you wait patiently impatiently for Google Photos to launch.
