Hangouts Stickers Arrive on the Desktop

Craving to spam stickers to your friends on Hangouts from the desktop? You'll be pleased to know it is now possible thanks to an update reaching Hangouts on the web and Chrome app.

All the stickers you know and love (or not) from the Android Hangouts app has been ported over, but with a few caveats to the user interface. The sticker picker appears to have been tacked-on to the emoji picker, which makes for a less than intuitive user experience. When you press the emoticon button on an open chat window, you'll see two rows: One for stickers, and the bottom one for emoji. Although it doesn't look fantastic right now, I expect an update down the line which will clear up the clutter and refine the sticker/emoji UI (how about a dedicated button for each, Google?).

The newly-ported feature works as you'd expect though, select a sticker and it'll instantly appear in the chat, so be sure to only click what you actually want to send. Other than that, there's nothing else new in this update, but we're still giddy over last week's major visual overhaul to the Chrome app of Google's instant messaging service.

The update is rolling out on the web (Google+, Gmail and Inbox) and the Hangouts Chrome app which you can grab from here.

Will you be using stickers on the desktop?
