Adding a Splash of Fresh Paint to GPD

Today we're giving our site a lick of fresh paint and a peppering of other improvements based on your feedback.

Our resident web developer/designer, +Simon Janssens de Varebeke, has been hard at work since first launching GPD v2.0 in April of this year, which was our first major retake focusing mainly on responsiveness, making our site and content look great across any screen size. We also cleaned up the cruft and added a smattering of delightful animations for good measure.

Today, we're building on that concept and throwing in a couple more tricks up our sleeves. Let's talk about what's new:

Keeping it Simple

Our aim for this release is to keep the design as simple and minimal as possible, this means the loss of more clutter and correcting visual inconsistencies. We've found that turning up the contrast between the background and posts help keep your eyes fixed on what matters most: The content.

The "Read more" links on the homepage have been swapped for fancy-looking material design-inspired buttons which are either red, blue, green or grey, depending on the type of content. But more on that below...
We've also added brand new share buttons so you can +1, Tweet and Like our articles to spread the word as much as you like (and we'll be forever grateful).

Product Tags

We've always covered Hangouts and Photos, and even though they've been separated or soon to be separated from Google+, we're still committed to covering news and other content for these products. In case you'd just want to read about Google+, or Photos and Hangouts specifically, we've added product tags to the top-right of each post in which you can click to see more related content from us.
Click on the tag to view the most recent posts relating to that product
Each post is assigned a colour based on the product (Google+ - Red, Hangouts - Green, Photos - Blue) so it is easy to see at a glance what category the article is in as you scroll down the home page. When you choose to read more of an article, the backdrop will change to the primary colour of the category. Articles that aren't related to these (like this post) will use a grey backdrop, which the homepage also sports. It looks really pretty, so make sure to check out a few articles).

The categories found on the navigation menu are here to stay, and work alongside the new product tags.

We Want Your Feedback

As always, we want to read your feedback so we can make further improvements to make your reading experience on Google Plus Daily the best it possibly can be.

You can reach us by +mentioning +Google Plus Daily, myself (+Lee Jarratt) or +Simon Janssens de Varebeke directly on Google+ and we'll do our best to get back to you. Any form of feedback is welcome, so don't be shy!

So, what do you think of our refreshed website? Drop us a comment, we'd love to hear from you!
